- 12 quail eggs hard boiled & peeled
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cloves garlic peeled
- 5 whole peppercorns
- 3-4 whole allspice berries
- 1-2 whole cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
Begin by hard boiling the quail eggs following the instructions mentioned above. Once the eggs are cooked, carefully peel the shells off and place the clean eggs in a sterilized jar, leaving some space at the top for the brine.
In a pot, combine the remaining ingredients and bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir occasionally until the salt dissolves, which should take about a minute.
Once the brine is ready, pour it over the quail eggs in the jar, making sure they are completely submerged. Add any spices or herbs that you prefer.
Seal the jar tightly and place it in the refrigerator for a minimum of one week, allowing the flavors to infuse. Once the eggs have been pickled to your liking, they can be enjoyed as a snack or added to your favorite recipes.
- Use fresh quail eggs: Fresh eggs are easier to peel and will yield better results when pickling.
- Pierce the egg before boiling: To make peeling the eggs easier, use a pin or needle to pierce a small hole in the bottom of each egg before boiling.
- Don't overcook the eggs: Overcooking the eggs can result in a rubbery texture. Boil them for approximately 4-5 minutes and then immediately transfer them to an ice bath to stop the cooking process.
- Use a sterilized jar: To prevent any bacteria growth, make sure to sterilize your jar by boiling it or running it through the dishwasher.
- Allow the eggs to come to room temperature: Before pickling, let the eggs cool to room temperature to prevent the hot brine from cracking the jar.
- Experiment with different spices: Feel free to mix and match spices to create your own unique flavor profile. Try adding bay leaves, dill, or red pepper flakes for an extra kick.
- Let the flavors infuse: For the best results, allow the eggs to pickle for at least a week in the refrigerator before consuming.
