Ingredients

  • 1 pound frozen bread dough,
  • 5 pounds  ground beef
  • ¼ cup  water
  • 1 large  head cabbage chopped
  • 1 large  onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons  butter melted

Instructions

  • To begin, preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Next, take each loaf of frozen bread dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball shape and set it aside.
  • In a large pot over medium heat, crumble the ground beef and cook until it is evenly browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  • Add water, cabbage, onion, and garlic to the pot and continue cooking over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is soft.
  • Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste, keeping in mind that more pepper than salt is preferred. Once done, drain off any excess liquids and set aside.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough balls into approximately 5-inch squares. Place around 3/4 cup of the cabbage burger mixture in the center of each dough square, and fold the dough over the filling to create a pocket.
  • Pinch the edges together to seal the pocket closed. Place each pocket onto a baking sheet with the seam side down.
  • Bake the cabbage burgers in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Once done, remove them from the oven and brush each with melted butter. Serve the cabbage burgers hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Make sure to properly thaw the frozen bread dough before starting the recipe.
  • Use lean ground beef to avoid excess grease and improve the overall texture of the cabbage burger filling.
  • Don't overcook the cabbage, as it can become mushy and lose its flavor.
  • Add additional seasonings to the filling to customize the flavor, such as paprika or cumin.
  • Experiment with different types of dough, such as pizza dough or puff pastry, for a unique twist on the classic cabbage burger.
  • Serve with a side of your favorite dipping sauce for an extra burst of flavor.
