  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons  active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup milk, lukewarmn
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 1 ⅓ cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons  olive oil,

For The Filling:

  • 1 cup butter melted
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 ½ cups raisins
  • 1 ½ cups  chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

For The Dough:

  • In a small mixing bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of flour and 1 teaspoon of sugar. After adding yeast, add 1/4 cup warm mix and mix well; let stand for 10 minutes to become creamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and remaining sugar until creamy. Once each egg yolk has been added, beat well after each addition. Stir in yeast mixture, 1 1/3 cups milk, and salt.
  • Add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Oil a large bowl lightly. Oil the greased bowl and place the dough in it. Put a damp cloth over the dough and let it rise until it doubles in size, about one hour.
  • Grease two rimmed baking sheets lightly. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and deflate it. Divide into two equal parts. Make a rectangle out of each piece that is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.

For The Filling:

  • In a bowl, combine butter, honey, raisins, and walnuts. Over the top, sprinkle cinnamon. Pinch the ends to seal each piece after rolling up and over the filling.
  • Place the loaves seam-side down on the prepared baking sheets. After 45 minutes to an hour, let it rise until it has doubled in volume.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Approximately one hour after preheating the oven, bake the loaves until golden brown.
