Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
Cream the shortening and butter together in a large bowl. Slowly beat in the milk till the dough becomes soft. Add the sugar and cinnamon and mix well. Add the salt, vanilla, and baking soda and stir well.
Mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. To the wet mixture, add the dry ingredients and stir just until combined.
Knead until smooth on a floured surface, adding some more flour if necessary to prevent it from sticking.
Roll out the dough on a flat surface in a rectangle about 8 by 12 inches and about 1/4 inches thick (do this in batches if it is sticking).
Leave a 1-inch border around the edges, and brush with melted butter. Add cinnamon and sugar to it.
Divide the dough in half, then make two biscuits, and then divide each half into thirds to make six wedges.
For a golden brown top and a cooked center, bake the loveless cafe biscuits for 18 to 20 minutes (test with a toothpick).
Before serving, let it cool slightly.
